Each type of scan has a primary objective. If this primary objective is not achieved, then a rescan is guaranteed. This ensures that, one way or another, you can be sure that your objective will be achieved.
2D Reassurance Scan
The primary objective is to find your baby’s heartbeat, as well as weights and dates.
If this cannot be achieved, it might not be anything serious, it could just mean that your dates are not quite right, and you have come in too early for our probe to pick up a heartbeat. This is why we must be strict about performing scans no earlier than 9 weeks. In this case, we will book you in for a rescan.
However, if the sonographer deems that this is indicative of something more serious, or discovers any other anomalies, then she will immediately refer you to the appropriate NHS service, with a report and any relevant images. In this case, you will not require a rescan as you will now be under the care of the NHS.
For Late Pregnancy Reassurance Scans (30+ weeks), the primary objective remains the same, but we will endeavour to capture 3D and 4D images, if there is time within your allotted appointment (after achieving the primary objective), and if the baby is in the right position. You can then choose to purchase these images separately.
However, these images are a bonus, and not part of the primary objective. If we cannot capture them, we are not obliged to offer a rescan. If you’re primary objective is to capture high quality 3D & 4D images, then please book one of our 3D Photo or 4D Video Packages instead.
3D Gender Scan
The primary objective is to determine the gender with confidence.
If we cannot do this at the first attempt, because your baby’s legs are crossed, or the umbilical cord is in the way, we will schedule a free rescan. If your schedule and ours allows, this could be on the same day, otherwise we will book you into the next available slot.
This is not something the NHS will do at your 20 week scan, because finding the gender is not their primary objective. So only with one of our 3D Gender Scans can you guarantee that the gender will be determined, even if it’s not on the first attempt.
We will endeavour to capture 3D and 4D images, if there is time within your allotted appointment (after achieving the primary objective), and if the baby is in the right position. You can then choose to purchase these images separately.
However, these images are a bonus, and not part of the primary objective. If we cannot capture these images, we are not obliged to offer a rescan. If you’re primary objective is to capture high quality 3D & 4D images, then please book one of our 3D Photo or 4D Video Packages instead.
4D Video Packages
The primary objective is to achieve high quality 3D & 4D images.
If the baby is in a bad position, and is not posing for the camera, or you are simply not satisfied with the quality of the images, then we will book you in for a rescan. In some cases the sonographer may make this decision for you. She will normally be able to tell very early into a scan if the baby is in a good position for the best quality images.
You may not be offered the next available appointment. The sonographer will be able to advise when would be best to come back in, as in some cases it might be best to wait a week or two for best results.
The images from your first scan will not be destroyed. These can still be put on your CD when you return for your rescan.
You must request a rescan before you leave the clinic. We cannot guarantee a rescan will be granted once you have left.
After 30 weeks, the quality of the images is very much all or nothing. The baby could be too big to be able to capture high quality images, but if they are in the right position, then the images are among the best we can see. If you come for your scan or rescan at 30 weeks, then we will book you in for a rescan at 30+ weeks. Your guaranteed rescan is valid throughout the full term of your pregnancy. However, if we are still unable to capture high quality 3D and 4D images, then we will downgrade the package to a Late Pregnancy Reassurance Scan (£59), and refund you accordingly.
NB: Promotional rates will not be taken into account, so if you used vouchers to only pay £69, for example, then you will be refunded £10.
We understand it can be inconvenient to come back for a rescan, especially if you have travelled some distance. Despite this, a part or full refund cannot be given in lieu of a rescan. You must at least give us the chance to achieve the objective during a rescan before we consider downgrading the package to a Late Pregnancy Reassurance Scan.
